CONSULTATION WITH PARLIAMENTARIAN

The provincial consultative workshop was arranged at Avari hotel Lahore, in Mughal hall, with the MPAs. Dr. Fr. James Chanan OP presided over the workshop. Ejaz Shafi MPA from Rahim Yar kahan was honoured as the chief guest, along with Sadia Sohail from Lahore on the main chairs. Dr. Fr. James Chanan OP welcomed the parliamentarians, members of the civil society, media persons.  The responsibility of the stage secretary was handed over to Mr. Ejaz Rahi (AAP Advocacy officer). Mr. Ejaz Rahi opened the forum for the further proceedings. Mr. Sarfraz Clement the director of Action Against Poverty shared about the organization and its projects. Most importantly he fixated the attention of all the parliamentarians on the issues raised by the women sanitary workers. He mentioned all what he experienced while being in the field with the sanitary workers. The video on women sanitary worker’s issues was shown, which took 11 minutes. After the video, the charter of demand was presented by Mr. Asher Younas (Advocacy & research officer). After the sharing of the charter of demand the discussion was opened to the parliamentarians. Madam Nabila MPA, PTI from Sahiwal pledged her commitment in her speech that she will be the one to share with the other MPAs so that they can make their opinion stronger and present it as a bill. For sure the “women can feel the pain of women”. Madam Sadia Sohail MPA PTI,  from Lahore delivered a long speech on the unbecoming behavior of the people in power. She alleged that they (MPAs) will contribute for the genuine reason. Mr. Ejaz Shafi MPA PP 290, PML (N) from Rahim Yar Khan gave a strong speech on the issues of the women sanitary workers , as he himself is closely linked with the law, alleged that these workers are not the part of the government worker’s policy but now we need to bring them in the circle of workman.

He even thanked the AAP org to be the channel and support for the marginalized people.

At the end Dr.Fr. James Chanan thanked all the participants and the organizers.
